State 'Troup'-er Area Principal Featu tea in Georgia Magazine The January issue of GEORGIA Magazine featured Troup Comprehensive High School Principal Bill Parsons and his char- acter education program. In the arti- cle, writer Jackie Kennedy explains how Parsons' program is part of the everyday curriculum at the school and how it has become a model for schools across the country. Since the article's release, the Georgia Center of Character Education has received increased calls from all over the country. "EMCs reach into the heart of the state through local communities," Wetzel says. "Character Education is about com- mtmity involvement and that is what EMCs are all about." The response to the GEORGIA Magazine article has been so great that VCetzel recently presented edi- tor Ann Orowski with a certificate of appreciation for the magazine's efforts in promoting character edu- cation. "We even got a call from a prison in Pennsylvania," Wetzel notes. "A prisoner there had received a copy of the magazine through a family member, and commented that if programs such as Character Education had been around when he was growing up, maybe he would not be incarcerated."
