Warm Springs Development Fund's history of successful public-private partnerships reached another important milestone May 20th, with the announcement of the completion of the build- ing campaign for Blanchard Hall, the Roosevelt Institute's future home for reha- bilitation technology and all outpatient serv- ices. ...................... The fundraising, public relations and vol- unteer services arm of the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation, a state- managed (Georgia Department of Labor), comprehensive rehabilitation facility spe- cializing in both medical and vocational reha- bilitation, the RWS Development Fund has raised over $17 million for the Institute since its creation in 1986. Its support of programs and services at the historic 76-year-old facil- ity founded by Franklin Delano Roosevelt, has provided growth that would have other- wise been impossible. Groundbreaking for the 34,000-square- foot complex, which will cost $5.6 million, was held last November in conjunction with the Institute's 75th Anniversary Celebration and building namesake James H. Blanchard of Columbus, one of Georgia's foremost busi- ness leaders and a long-time supporter of the Institute, was the honored guest. The campaign, which began with the state of Georgia committing $2.97 million in December of 2000, included over 100 donors. The architect for the project is Stanley Beaman & Sears of Atlanta and selection of the builder is currently in the bidding process. "This is the third major capital campaign we have completed since 1995 and it's a per- fect example of what can be accomplished in the public arena for the good of everyone when you have committed support from indi- viduals and private foundations," RWS Development Board Chairman Bruce Williams stated. In the last 12 years, the RWS Development Fund also spearheaded construction of the Roosevelt Institute's Camp Dream and Center for Therapeutic Recreation, an $11.2 million project, as well as the $2.8 million renova- tion of Roosevelt Hall, both of which were also accomplished through public-private partnerships. Major donors to the campaign have includ- ed the Robert Woodruff Foundation, the Bradley-Turner Foundation, the Callaway Foundation, The Synovus Foundation, Mr. and Mrs. James E. Butler, the Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation, the John H. & Wihelmina D. Harland Charitable Foundation and the Coca-Cola Company.
