state's unemployment woes

economic struggle.
"I'm concerned that the
less-than-robust economic
recovery and revelations of
corporate scandals continue
to impact employment oppor-
tunities here in Georgia," said
Thurmond.
"However, we are seeing
some positive signs, such as
the steady decline in initial
jobless claims," said
Thurmond
• Meriwether had the
highest rate, with a 8.1 for
June, compared to 6.8 per-
cent in May.
In June of last year. the
jobless rate for Meriwether
was 7.0 per cent.
• The lowest rate of the
four local counties for ,hme
was the 3.2 per cent record-
ed in Harris• Harris County
had a jobless rate of 2.7 per
cent in the revised May fig-
ures.
A year ago, Harris had a
3.1 jobless rate.
• Talbot's rate continued
to improve, especially com-
pared to a year ago. Talbot
showed a 4.9 per cent rate in
