Funeral services were held at the chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Manchester on Monday, August 9,1999 at 2 p.m. Burial followed at Meriwether Memory Gardens. Serving as pallbearers were Wayne Owsley, Winfred Mathis, David Cox, Lawrence Gilbert, Samuel Swygert, Mark Clare, READ AND USE STAR MERCURY CLASSIFIEDS PHONE 846-3188 Michael Mathis and Hilary Clare. The Rev. Richard Campbell, pastor of St. James United Methodist Church, officiated and was assisted by Rev. Drew Corbett, pastor of Woodbury Baptist Church. Mrs. Cox was born April 16, 1903 in Meigs, the daughter of Joseph Theophilus and Ela Pearl Law Mathis. She was a home- maker and a member of St. James United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel H. Cox: Survivors include three daughters: Louise C. Swygert of Woodbury, Dorothy C. Clare of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Sammye C. William Lawrence Minnix Decatur - Mr. William Lawrence (Bill) Minnix, St. died Wednesday, August 11,1999. Mr. Minnix, a long time resident of Decatur, was born in Palmetto and grew up in Manchester, Georgia. He met his future bride at the Warm Springs pool. They married just before he entered the Army during World War II. He spent most of his serv- ice time in England as a staff supply sargeant, where he helped prepare for the Normandy Invasion. After the war, he and his wife moved to Atlanta where he worked for Delta Airlines, General Mills and Lustra Lighting Company. He and his family were among the early members of Belvedere United Methodist Church to which he was very devoted. On his death bed, he expressed love for family, friends and church and that he had no regrets. His is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mrs. Frances Roberts Minnix; a son, Larry Minnix and daughter-in-law, Kathleen; grandsons, John and David, all of Atlanta; brothers, Dan Minnix, Manchester, Paul Minnix, Vancouver, B.C. and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons August 13, 1999. The Rev. J. B. McNeil officiated. Interment was in Greenville Cemetery, Creenville. Current and former mem- bers of Belvedere United Methodist Church served as Honorary Escort and nephews served as pallbearers at the grave. He retired as Staff Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of World War II. A former resident of Louisiana, had lived in Port Orange since 1998. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jean Green Galloway of Port Orange; three sons, Dell Galloway o Virginia Beach, Virginia, Guy Galloway of California and Scott Moir of Port Orange; two daughters, Mrs, Kerry Nations of Port Orange and Mrs. Vickie Smith of Louisiana; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Nichols of Hogansville and Miss Lillian Galloway of Conyers; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Hershel Whitley officiating. Mrs. Buckner was born April 25, 1909 in Coweta County, the daughter of James Smith and Clem Giles. She was a home- maker and a member of Hareb Baptist Church. She was pre- ceded in death by her husband, Charlie Buckner. Survivors include a daugh- ter, Doris Curtis of Junction City; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
