Giddens is no stranger to Troup County as he coached ,The last year at LaGrange High and previously at Troup High School. The Greenville, Alabama 8rid native also coached for five years at Highland Home in his native state. Giddens said that work .,n Cummings left the football pro- gram in good shape. 'Fhe players are sound and do not mind contact and have a tremendous work ethic," Giddens stated. "I tribute this to Sonny and his staff.' ..... He describes his coaching philosophy as "firm, but fair." He credits much of his coaching knowledge to former qYoup head coach Jim Holley. "Every coach that i have ever worked with has been an influence on me," he added. "To single one out is hard, but if I had to,it would be coach Holley," he stated. Giddens said he is pretty much a run-oriented coach who believes you have to run and stop the run. You also have to be able to tackle and block to be suc- cessful, he commented. Giddens said he expects Callaway to compete for one of the four playoff spots in the new region this season and is looking for the school's first playoff victory. He said his squad is young, especially on offense, but has a veteran offensive line but not experience wise 'aVe are getting better each day,' he added Giddens said the CAVS will run the %Ving T" on offense and an eightman front on defense Giddens said the teams to watch for in the new region are .;. Mmachester, S.E. Macon and I.amaar County as well as Macon County.
