Both candidates are launching aggressive campaigns to challenge incumbent city council members. Sasso's campaign signs are already scat- tered throughout the city, and Palmer's are expected to go up this week. Both candidates will soon be hitting the streets with similar promises to four council members this November. Sasso is challenging incumbent Doug Jewell, a veteran of local politics. Palmer faces incumbent Jerome Mills, appointed to the council follow- ing the resignation of Willie Clements earlier this year. Also appointed to fill a vacancy, Casey Houston is defending her seat against Barham Lundy, and Rochelle Jabaley and Melissa Duren are vying for the post currently occupied by retir- ing council member John Malcolm.
