PAGE 6-A HOGANSVILLE HOME NEWS - THURSDAY, Nov. 6, 2003 Vern Wegienka November 28, 1934 - October 29, 2003 Former Fire Department Volunteer Vern Wegienka, 68, of Hogansville, died Wednesday, Oct. 29 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange. A funeral service was conducted Nov. 1 at Antioch Baptist Church in Hogansville. Rev. R.C. Prescott and Rev. Wesley Boatman officiated, interment fol- lowed in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville. Born Nov. 28, 1934, in Ann Arbor, Mich., he was the son of the late John and Audrey Tandy Wegienka. He was an Army veteran, had lived in Hogansville since 1957, and was a volunteer for the Hogansville Fire Department. A member of Antioch Baptist Church in Hogansville, he was a deacon, a choir member, a former R.A. Leader, and a long time teacher of the Junior Boys Sunday School class. He retired from Owens Corning in Fairburn after 25 years service. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Montgomery Wegienka of Hogansville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Melody Wegienka and Keith and Pare Wegienka all of LaGrange, and Kerry and Melody Wegienka of Hogansville; three sisters, Phyllis Showers of Stockbridge, Mich., Evelyn" Elwart of Brighton, Mich., and Sharon Showers of Dansville, Mich., five brothers, Erwin Wegienka and Jimmy Wegienka, both of East Lansing, Mich., Jerry Wegienka of Williamston, Mich., Gene Wegienka of Lansing, Mich., and Ralph Wegienka of Taylor, Mich.; six grandchildren, Adam Wegienka, Zoe' Wegienka, Guy Wegienka, Anna Wegienka, Logan Wegienka, and Chloe Wegienka; and special friends that he consti- tuted as children, Danny Turner, Brenda Jones, and Kim Shirah. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Wegienka. The Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville was in charge of arrangements. Annie Sherrer August 16, 1909 - November 1, 2003 Troup County Resident of 60 Years Annie Garrett Sherrer, 94, of the Louise Community of Troup County, died Saturday, Nov. 1 at Georgia Baptist Meriwether Hospital in Warm Springs. The funeral service was conducted Tuesday, Nov. 4, in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Rev. Carolyn Evans officiated and interment followed in Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange. Pallbearers were Wayne Hamlin, Terry Hamlin, Greg Railey, Keith Hamlin, Scottie Hamlin, Jerry Hamlin, Eric Mixon, and Donald Hamlin. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Sherrer, Ronald Sherrer, Randy Tabb, David Noles, Johnny Hamlin, Jeff Hamlin and Victor Owen. She was born August 16, 1909, in Heard County, daughter of the late George and Cordelia Hester Garrett. She lived in Troup County sixty years, was a member of the Louise Baptist Church, and retired from the Kex Division of Callaway Mills Company in LaGrange. She was the wife of the late Willie Lee Sherrer. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Eddie Lee Hamlin of Chatsworth, Joyce and Robert Railey and Judith and Richard Railey, all of Woodbury; one son, Leolin Sherrer of LaGrange; nine- teen grandchildren; and a number of great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchil- dren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Willis Lee Sherrer, Jr., and James Millard Sherrer. The Claude A. Wheeler Bryan March 7, 1927 - October 30, 2003 Former Principal of Hogansville High Wheeler Bryan, 76, of Greenville, died Thursday, Oct. 30 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange. A funeral service was conducted Sunday, Nov. 2 at Unity Baptist Church in Heard County. Rev. Jonathan Porter and Rev. Bobby Robinson officiated and inter- ment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Bryan, Brian Gray, Bob Deel, William Asbury, Henry Byrd, and Clint Wilson. Mr. Bryan was born March 7, 1927 in Heard County, son of the late John Lovic and Clara Heard Bryan. An Army veteran of World War Two, he received his bachelors degree from Georgia Southern College and his masters form Auburn University. He was a retired educator and served as principal of Hogansville High School from 1965 to 1977. He retired as principal from Greenville High School in 1982. He was a member of Greenville Baptist Church, Greenville Legion Post #186, was a charter member of the Greenville Lions Club, and received the Lions Melvin Jones Fellow Award. Survivors include his wife, Sue Bryan; one daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Clint Wilson of Greenville; two sons and daugh- ters-in-law, B.L. and Cathy Bryan of Greenville and Chris and Teresa Bryan of Luthersville; one sister, Rebecca Gray of LaGrange; four grandchildren, Cameron Bryan, Ion Bryan, Jessica and Kyle Johnson, and Chase Wilson; and two great-grandsons, Lance Johnson and Tyler Johnson. The Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville was in charge of arrangements. Johnny L. Hall June 26, 1955 - November 2, 2003 Owner/Operator of Repair Shop Johnny L. Hall, 48, of Hogansville, died Sunday, Nov. 2 at his home. A graveside serv- ice was conducted Wednesday, Nov. 5 at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville. Rev. Ken Overby officiated. Mr. Hall was born June 26, 1955, in Troup County, son of the late Lanier Blake Hall and the late Virginia Hill Hall. A former resident of LaGrange, he had lived in Hogansville for the past eight years, where he owned and operated Hall's Repair Shop. Survivors include a daughter and son-in- law, Tina and Benjamin Stirblin of Lanett, AL; one son, Johnny Lanier Hall II of Valley, AL; two sisters, Betty Cardwell of LaGrange and Shirley Robinson of Hogansville; and sev- eral nieces and nephews.
