McWaters Jr., 66, of Port Orange, FL and a former resident of Hongansville died Thursday, Nov. 6 at National Health Care Center of Daytona Beach after a year-long battle with complications from a stroke. The funeral service was conducted Sunday, Nov. 9 at the graveside in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville with Rev. Max McCord officiating. Born July 29, 1937, in Heard County, Mr. McWaters was the son of the late Frank and Martha Thomas McWaters. He moved from Newnan to Daytona Beach in 1998, where he served as plant manager for First Coast Anodizing until his retirement in October of 2002. He was employed by Ethyl Corp. for 28 years and moved with his family from Newnan to Carthage, TN in 1969 with the opening of the plant and remained there until 1984. Mr. McWaters was a 1955 graduate of Heard County High School. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Becky Hooten McWaters of Port Orange; one daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Anthony Morris of Carthage, TN; a son and daughter- in-law, Stanley and Penny McWaters of Hermitage, TN; one sister, Jean Bonner of Eufaula, AL; and six grandchildren, Nicholas Morris, Meaghan Morris, Josh McWaters, MacKenzie McWaters, Shawna McWaters, and Michael McWaters. In addition to his par- ents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael McWaters. The Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of "Hogansville was in charge of arrangements. Josie Barber April 30, 1925 - November 3, 2003 Faith Baptist Church Member' Josie Calhoun Barber, 79, of Grantville, and formerly of Luthersville, died Monday, Nov. 3, at Georgia Baptist Meriwether Hospital in Warm Springs. The funeral serv- ice was held Wednesday, Nov. 5, in the Chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Rev. James Calhoun and Rev. Carl Calhoun officiated; interment followed in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in the Rocky Mount Community of Meriwether County. Mrs. Barber was born April, 30, 1925, in Meriwether County, daughter of the late Grover and Leila Moore Calhoun. She lived in Meriwether County most of her life, was a member of Faith Baptist Church in the Primrose Community, and was the wife of the late John Clovis Barber. Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Mary Ann Creed and Frances and Edward Calhoun, all of Grantville, and Gladys and Thomas Hannah of Luthersville; three sons and their wives, John and Joyce Barber of Gay, Billy and Debra Barber of Center, AL, and Robert and Sandra Barber of LaGrange; three sisters, Mildred Bishop and Lucy Crews, both of Newnan, and Margaret Bishop of Luthersville; 20 grand- children and 62 great grandchildren. Christopher October 15, 1958 - November 6, 2003 United Parcel Service Employee Paige Stanford Christopher, 45, of Smyrna, died Thursday, Nov. 6, at the home of her mother in Hampton. A funeral serv- ice was conducted Saturday, Nov. 8, in the Chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Rev. Alan Mathura officiated; interment followed in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville. Born Oct. 15, 1958, in Atlanta, Mrs. Christopher lived in Cobb County most of her life and was a former employee of United Parcel Service. Survivors include one son, Austin Blair Christopher of Mableton; her mother, Jacqueline Gillmore Brown of Hampton; one sister, Katherine Murphy of San Antonio, TX; a half-brother, Matthew Stanford of Smyrna; and several nieces and nephews. She was pre- ceded in death by her father, Thomas Cecil Stanford. The Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville was in charge of arrangements. Willie Mae Barnes April 4, 1913 - November 9, 2003 Private Duty Home Nurse Willie Mae Barnes, 90, of Newnan and a former resident of Grantville, died Sunday, Nov. 9 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan. The funeral service was conducted Wednesday, Nov. 12 at Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church in the Lone Oak Community of Meriwether County. Rev. Richard Campbell officiated; interment fol- lowed in the church cemetery. Mrs. Barnes was born April 4, 1913, in Meriwether County, daughter of the late Albert and Elvira Bowen Burdette. Before making her home in Newnan in 1997, she lived in Grantville for 55 years, was a member of Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church, and was the wife Of the late James Haygood Barnes. Following her retirement from Playtex International, she provided pri- vate-duty home nursing care for several years. Survivors include a daughter and son-in- law, Nancy and Jimmy Quick of Greenville; a son and daughter-in-law, James H. and Ryvonne Barnes of Newnan; one brother, Bill Burdette of Red Top Mountain, NC; and three grandchildren, Chris Stamps of Madras, Casey Stamps of Lone Oak, and Tommy Harris of Albany. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church. The Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville was in charge of arrangements. Jerry W. McWhorter June 29, 1944 - November 10, 2003 U.S. Navy Veteran of Vietnam Jerry W. McWhorter, 59, of Hogansville died Monday, Nov. 10, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange. The funeral service was conducted Wednesday, Nov. 12, in the Chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Pastor Stanley Rogers and Pastor Randy Dunlap officiated; inter- ment followed in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville. Born June 29, 1944 in Coweta County, McWhorter was the son of the late Lee McWhorter and the late Lorene McWhorter. He lived in Hogansville most his life, was a U.S. Navy veteran of Vietnam Conflict Baptist Church in Hogansville. He retired printing press operator. Survivors include two sons and dau ters-in-law, Wayne and Alicia Grantville and Tim and Vicki Jackson Ephesus; three sisters and their husbanc Peggy Pike Harris of Hogansville, Libby Mike Freeman of Franklin, and Stanley Rogers of Grantville; one brother sister in-law, Billy and Jean McWhorter Hogansville; five grandchildren; nephews and six nieces. In addition to his ents, he was preceded in death by two ters, Betty Williamson and a brother, Ray McWhorter. The Claude A. McKibben Home of Hogansville was in charge arrangements. Tony Akery February 14, 1958 - November 2, 2003 First Assembly of God Member Tony Akery, 45, of Carrollton ly of Luthersville, died Sunday, home. A graveside service was held Wednesday, Nov. 5 in the Hillview Cemetery in LaGrange. Rev. Williamson officiated. Mr. Akery was born February 14, 1958i Columbus, and had lived in Carrollton past five year;  He had attended Assembly of God in Hogarisville. Survivors include six sisters, Nixon of LaGrange, Dorothy Ashley Hogansville, Margie McDaniel of Waco. Dickey of Covington, and Patricia Akery Janet Mitchell, both of Panama FL; two brothers, Rufus Aker FL and John Akery Jr. of Newnan; and a ber of nieces and nephews.
