PAGE 8-A HOGANSVILLE HOME NEWS - THURSDAY, DEC. 4, 2003 Jenkins Nominated for Teacher of Year CLARISSA JENKINS is a 1989 graduate of Hogansville High School. Clarissa Jenkins, daughter of Tommy and Sara Jenkins of Hogansville, was nominated Teacher of the Year at Babb Middle School, located in Clayton County. She is a 1989 graduate of Hogansville High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Clark Atlanta University in 1993. She received her Master of Art in 1999 and Specialist degrees in Education from Troy State University in 2002. The following nomination essays were written about Jenkins by two of her colleagues: 1) Clarissa has been employed at Babb as a math teacher for nearly ten years. Every year, she is punctu- al as well as prepared for her stu- dents. She also goes beyond the call of duty and coaches the math team and cheerleaders, all of which represent Babb in a splendid way. There are other good candidates, however, none better than Clarissa Jenkins. 2) Ms. Jenkins, a veteran teacher, serves as a role model to both stu- dents and teachers alike. She is a diligent, creative, and sin- for others to the classroom and teach- ing profession. Her knowledge of cur- rent events in education and mathe- matics, her subject area, is inspiring for teachers old and new. Huckabee July 26, 1928 - November 27, 2003 Member of Highland Baptist Church Jane Gross Huckabee, age 75, of Hogansville, died Thursday, Nov. 27, at Newnan Hospital West. A funeral service was conducted on Saturday, Nov. 29 at Highland Baptist Church in Hogansvflle. Dr. Bob Atkins and Rev. Chm'les Chapman officiated; inter- ment followed in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville. Pallbearers were Jay Allen, Luke Smith, Jake Smith, Bradley Huckabee, Robbie Massingill, and Dub Mize. Born July 26, 1928 in Chambers County, AL, she was the daughter of the late W. C. and Annie Howell Gross. She had lived in Hogansville since 1949 and was a member of Highland Baptist Church, where she was active in the W.M.U. and the Happy Sixties. She retired from Playtex International in LaGrange. Survivors include two daughters and sons- in-law, Anne and Tim Smith of Grantville and Jennie and Randall Allen of HogansviUe; one son and daughter in-law, Jerry and Iris Huckabee of Eastman; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Huckabee of Hogansville; eight grand- children; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Joe Huckabee and a son, Randy Huckabee. The Claude A. Argo July 11, 1959 - December 1, 2003 Recent Hogansville Resident Blake Lee Argo, 44, of Hogansville, died Monday, Dec. 1, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange. A graveside seryice was held Wednesday, Dec. 3 in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville. Pastor Ed Wilkinson officiated. Born July 11, 1959 in Rome, he lived in Newnan for a number of years before mak- ing his home in Hogansville earlier this year. He was employed as a carpenter. Survivors include his wife, Kitty Landrum of Hogansville; his mother and step father, Glynelle and Gary Oyster of Dacula; his father, Jerry Argo of Rome; two sisters, Cathy Brown of Rome and Angela Dawn Benson of Braselton; five step-daughters, Myra Lisa Grfffis and Brenda Bowen, both of Newnan; Loretta Chambers of McDonough, Tina Lovell of Fort Payne, AL, and Pare Derr of Hogansville; and thirteen step-grandchil- dren.
